Sorry to hear about that Janie. Strange, Mum had the dentist today too.
When I was about 12 I had to have four or five teeth out for a brace...I had general anaesthetic which was the needle and I hate dentistry etc, plus I was pretty young so I loathed it all. I had braces for about two years...or eighteen months or something...retainer, then retainer and fixed brace, then fixed braces (upper and lower) then night time plastic retainers for a while. I hated it, hated it, hated it!! lol* But at the end of the day when I got them off, my teeth were lovely straight (OK so they're not shiny white but you can't have everything) and I've had a few compliments on them (when I choose to smile )
So it *will* be worth it.

Thanks Sam Laura is 17 and a half but her dental age is only 12! We've had to wait and wait until her teeth were at the right stage for all this, but she's quite old to be having braces now. It was case of having to have it done or else once she's 18 we would have had to pay a lot to have all this treatment done.

I'm gonna make my boys read your post Sam. Perhaps then they'll stop moaning about having to wear them when they read that someone else has been through it and found it to be worthwhile! lol

Yep - definitely worthwhile And believe me I was NOT in favour of the braces to begin with. It might be annoying, but they will have pretty smiles *g*

Barb and Laurie, thanks for you very kind words. As mothers I think we can all relate to wanting to protect your child from harm.

Barb, I hope Kristy's sinus surgery goes well in December and that she recovers completely from it

Laurie, Katherine's accident sounds absolutely horrible and I bet you must have been out of your mind with worry about her. I hope there was no lasting damage as a result of that horrendous injury. Reminds me of the time when Laura was about 4 and she managed to spill boiling water over her foot. That was an emergency that I don't ever want to live through again either! Although she burned her foot, the burns weren't too deep and she didn't suffer any residual scarring.

It's a wonder they make adulthood in one piece really isn't it?
